The Gift of Love with Tonic Studios Double Detail

Hi Everyone

Today MJ is using Blue and White card and Nuvo Crystal Drops to stencil with. This is such a great technique and the Nuvo drops give a lovely pearl finish when dry. We hope you like it.

What MJ Did

  • Take a 7” x 7” white card blank and mat some pale blue card onto the front leaving a narrow border.
  • Next cut a white square an 1/4” smaller than the blue piece.  Cut an aperture in the centre of the white square using the Memento Frame Die.  Create a frame with blue card by using aperture die plus the next size up.  Glue onto aperture.
  • Using two white strips of card and the Bluebell Meadow die.  Tape die in place and run through die cutting machine.  Repeat on other strip.
  • Glue the panels onto two strips of pale blue card and then cut an edge leaving a narrow border.  Take the stencil and lay in top of the cut panel.  Then using Nuvo Crystal drops in Wedgewood Blue spread over the stencil until covered.  Wash stencil straight away.  Repeat on remaining strip.  Leave to dry.
  • Add 3D foam to the back of the the white square and stick to front of card.  Then add foam pads to rear of stencilled panels and add one to each side of the card base.
  • Die cut the greeting in white and  glue in position.  Add a bow to finish.
  • Enjoy!

Sunshine Daisies – with Oak House Studio

Hi Everyone

MJ thought she would share some more inspiration from Oak House Studios.  She loves a stamp and bit of gorgeous ink!

Both of the following cards were made with MJ’s favourite Oak House Studio Double Daisy Stamp Set.

The first card is bright and cheery and would brighten someone’s day up.

Red Daisies

What MJ Did

  • Create an A5 white card base.
  • Cut a panel red layer at 8” x 3 1/2”, a green layer at 7 7/8” x 3 3/8” and a white piece of watercolour card at 7 3/4” x 3 1/4”.
  • Mat the green and red together and add to front right-hand side of the card.
  • Next take the daisy outline stamp and using black archival ink stamp the image twice onto the watercolour panel overlapping the the left-hand daisy off the edge of the card.. Then using the daisy border and the same ink stamp the image on a horizontal angle.  Draw stems for the large and small daisies.
  • Take another piece of watercolour card and using Jubilee Red Pure Colour mixed with water in a spray bottle, spritz the card to cover until happy with the shade.  Paint the flower stems with Citrus Lime ink.  Leave to dry.
  • Use the large daisy outline again and stamp onto the spritzed card.  Cut out.
  • Attach stamped watercolour panel to card front and add the daisy cut outs.
  • Stamp the Sunshine greeting onto a piece of white card and cut into a flag shape and layer onto red card.  Trim to leave a narrow border. Shape and add to card front to finish.
  • Enjoy!

MJ’s second card is vibrant and zesty but very quick and easy to do.

What MJ Did

  • Using a 7” x 7” white square card blank create a bright green mat cut to approx. 6 1/2” x 6 1/2”.  Adhere to card front.
  • Cut a white piece of card to 5 1/2” x 5 1/2” and then a black piece to 5 5/8” x 5 5/8”.  Add the black piece to card front.
  • Next take the large outline daisy stamp and using black archival ink stamp the image to create a background as shown.
  • Take some Citrus Lime ink and put onto a craft sheet.  Using a wet brush pick up the ink and colour the daisies.  Leave to dry.
  • Stamp a row of black daisies using the border stamp.  Trim to create a strip.  Mount this into some green and black card leaving a narrow border top and bottom.  Glue across centre of cad towards the bottom of card.
  • Take the Sunshine greeting and stamp with black ink onto white card.  Trim to size and layer onto green and black card.  Use 3D foam pads and mount on top of daisy strip.
  • Enjoy!

Hi Everyone

MJ has another easy but elegant card to share with you today that she made for the recent launch from Tonic Studios – Double Detail Die and Stencil Sets.

Here we go……

Dbl Details Cream Burgundy Bflies Oct 15

What MJ Did

  • Create a 7” x 7” card blank from ivory linen card.
  • Cut a 6” square ivory card.  Attach the die approx. 3/4” in from the left side and run through your die cutting machine.
  • Next take the stencil and place it over the top of the die cut area so that you cannot see any gaps through the stencil only ivory card.
  • To make a sparkle paste:- take some glue gel medium and mix it with gold Nuvo glitter.  Ensure the stencil is secured down then spread the paste through the stencil making sure all areas are covered.  Carefully remove the stencil.  Leave to dry.
  • Whilst the paste is drying die cut the butterflies and cut a 6 1/4” square of burgundy card and attach to front of card.
  • Once paste is dry attach the panel to the card and add butterflies to finish.

Delightful Daisies with Oak House Studios

Hi Everyone

Today MJ is sharing a couple of quick and easy card projects with you that she made for a recent Hochanda show using fabulous inks and stamps from Oak House Studios.  We hope you caught the shows.

This first card was made using the Daisy Stamp Set.  This set is a very versatile with a great large Daisy outline stamp together with an abstract shadow stamp.

Brown daisies

What MJ Did

  • Take a 7” x 7” card blank and layer a 6 1/2” red square and then a 6 1/4” white square onto the front of the card.
  • Cut a 6” square of Kraft card.  Using the daisy shadow stamp create a design with the Triple Vintage Browns pigment ink pad.
  • Next using the Daisy outline image stamp it once centrally on the card with the Triple Fruity Reds pigment ink pad.  Then on Kraft card stamp it twice more and cut them out.  Snip in between petals and shape slightly to give movement.
  • Attach the daisies to the centre of the card using 3D Glue gel/foam pads slightly off setting to add dimension to the image.
  • Then use a glue gel/£d glue gel to the centre of the daisy and top with some micro beads.  Leave to dry.
  • Take the ‘Sunshine ‘ Greeting form the Daisy Set and stamp onto white card using the browns ink pad.  Layer with some red card and add to front of card.
  • Enjoy!

The second card is using the same set.  This time MJ only used part of the Daisy stamp.

3 daisies

What MJ Did

  • Using a 6” x 6” square card blank matt some orange, yellow and white layers.
  • Next take the Daisy outline stamp and black archival ink and stamp onto watercolour card three times.
  • Using the Oak House Studio Pure Colour Chemistry ink – Put a little onto a glass mat/craft sheet, take a brush and some water and colour the daisies with Bottled Sunshine, Pumpkin Pie and Jubilee Red until you have the desired effect.
  • Next cut out half the daisies (see above) heads.
  • Stamp the verse with Triple Sunshine Yellows pigment ink pad onto white card.  Layer this onto orange and yellow card leaving narrow borders each time.  Add to card front with 3D foam pads.
  • Trim into petals of daisies to give dimension to the image and add to front of card with 3D foam pads to finish.
  • Enjoy!

If Friends Were Flowers Decorative Daffodil

Hi Everyone

Another busy day today – prepping classes and workshops and some are for 2016!  Where has the time gone?

MJ has a quick card to share with you today that she recently made for the launch of the Double Detail Die and Stamp sets.

This is a pretty card.  Unfortunately, the bright yellows and greens do not show up in the photo.

if flowers were freinds double stencil daff

What MJ Did

  • Create a card blank so that it is a little taller than the die panel allowing room for mat and layers from white linen card.
  • Cut two white panels that will fit the length of the stencil and use Mustard Seed and Peeled Paint Distress Inks to colour through the panel.  Dry.
  • Next place the stencil back in place over the dried ink, tape down and spread a clear drying paste or glue gel medium thought the stencil.  Carefully remove stencil (put into water to clean) and whilst still wet pour micro brads on top.  Leave to dry.
  • Whilst panels are drying use the cleaned stencil and some Mustard Seed ink to create a background design on the card blank.
  • Once panels are dry, ink around edges lightly with some of the Mustard Seed ink and layer onto some green card. Raise both panels with some 3D foam and add to front of card.
  • Die cut centre layers and sentiment and add this to front centre of card.
  • Add a bow to finish.  Enjoy!

Aztec Allium Tall Box Project using Double Detail Die and Stencil Set form Tonic Studios

Hi Everyone

I hope you all loved the recent Pick of the Day launch with Jodie.  I did for sure.  Lots of lovely techniques and ideas.  These new die and stencil sets are fabulous. They work so well as stand alone products too.  I loved working with them.

So here is an idea for you using the daffodil die and stencil set.  I hope you like it.

Teal and white Tall Box

teal and white double stencil Oct 15

  • Take an A4 piece of teal coloured card and score four panels at 2 3/4”.  This will leave you with an extra strip for gluing box sides together later.
  • Next the die from the Aztec Allium set and place centrally inside the first 2 3/4” panel.  Tape in place and run through your die cutting machine.  Repeat this on the remaining three panels.
  • Using the stencil part of the set lay it over the first die cut panel carefully aligning it (you will not be able to see any gaps shoeing through). Cover either side of the stencil with copy paper to protect the other areas. Take some paste (modelling past, stencil paint etc.) and using a spatula spread the paste up the length of the stencil.
  • Carefully remove the stencil and clean straight away.  You will need to leave each panel to dry before doing the next one.  If using a modelling paste you can speed the drying up using a heat tool.
  • Once all panels are dry fold and burnish the score lines.  Do not glue box together at this stage.
  • Cut four pieces of black card at approx. 2 1/2” x 8” and glue one to the rear of each of the stencilled panels.
  • Next cut two squares of black card at 3 13/16” (sorry but it fits better at this than at 3 3/4”).  Score around all edges at 1/2”.  Cut tabs. fold and burnish score lines and glue boxes.
  • Glue the tall box piece inside one of the small box pieces.  The other box will be the lid.
  • Decorate to suit.

Where the HeArt is Challenge #2 – Use Some Stencils

Hi Everyone

I got up this morning and it was dark!!  Autumn really is upon us now but at least the colours are still looking good around the countryside.

Well yes, it’s that time already!  IT’s time to get your entries in for the Where the HeARt is challenge and this month it’s all about using some stencils and even better it’s n Anything Goes challenge….woo hooo!

Our sponsors this month are the very talented Sassy Studio

For my DT piece this month I chose to use some stencils and create a page in my Art Journal.  I made my journal from an old work diary from 2012.  This is the cover so I thought I had better start filling the pages with art!

I hope you like it.

04.10.15 Dbl Journal Page Flat - Use a Stencil Challenge Oct 15

What MJ Did

  • First I painted my double page with gesso and dried.
  • Using a glue gel medium I added some printed tissue paper that was sent as packaging (it was lovely so I couldn’t throw it away) tearing as I wanted.
  • Then I took a selection of stencils and some light paste to create texture on my page.
  • Next came the fun bit!  I started building up my colours using spray inks in greens and blues (my faves) dabbing with a baby wipe to soften colour and dried.
  • I roughly cut a half heart shape from a scrap of patterned paper and stuck to the page.
  • Using a stencil and some white gesso I sponged through to add another layer of interest to the piece.  When dry I drew around details using a black permanent pen smudging whilst still wet.
  • I took word stamps, stamped onto patterned paper, cut out and stuck on to page.  Used black pen as before around the edges.
  • Finally I distressed the edges of both pages using black Archival ink.
