Fairy Elegance with Tonic Studios

Hi Everyone

Everywhere is bursting with colour getting ready for the summer so MJ thought that is what she would do too using soft oranges and yellows.

We hope you like it so here is how MJ made it for you.

Fairy Elegance 11.06.15

  1. Make a base card using 2 pieces of A4 card to measure 8 1/2” x 7 1/2”.
  2. Mat a piece of orange card measuring 8 3/8” x 7 3/8” onto card front.
  3. Mat a piece of pretty paper on card front measuring 7 1/4” x 8 1/4”.
  4. Using the Art Nouveau Layering Set, cut the largest outer frame in orange.
  5. Then using the largest verso part cut into yellow card and then place the outer frame on and cut out.  Glue onto large orange piece.
  6. Using the next size down repeat cutting an outer orange piece and then use the pretty paper to cut verso part as above.  Glue the paper to the orange base.
  7. Cut out Fairy Lily in a pale peachy tone card twice. Cut from below her waist and the straight part of her legs.  On the second fairy we just need the straight leg part.  Glue the leg pieces across each other as in picture.
  8. Cut out 5 x Star Trail to use as her skirt, some flowers and butterflies together with a sentiment.
  9. Glue large oval piece to front of card.  Then using foam pads add the top oval layer.
  10. Arrange and glue skirt pieces to fairy body and stick to top oval layer.  Adhere legs under skirt bottom.  Add butterflies and flowers.

Fairy Elegance 11.06.15

11.  Using Nuvo Crystal Drops add your design around the edges and to corners of card.

12.  To finish add the greeting.

It’s a Man’s World – Crafting Musketeer’s Challenge #24

Hi Everyone

Woo Hoo, it’s Challenge #24 time, and the theme is "It's A Man's World"  and the sponsor for this month is JGD Crafts .

Here is a little bit about them.

"We are a friendly local business in the heart of Nottinghamshire, England. We specialise in both Card Making and Parchment craft products and tuition.

Janet Humphries (the owner) started her passion for what she does now as a hobby concentrating on mainly decoupage. After the shortage of local shops selling the goods she required, Janet then started running a business back in 2002 on a local market in Mansfield.
The business then progressed to a small shop and after a few years moved to larger premises and shortly afterwards opened a tuition centre. Local people who want to learn the art of card making and parchment craft currently use the tuition centre. The tuition centre also hosts event days for many professionals you may know i.e. Christine Coleman .

Along the way, the web site was born back in 2004 this originally serviced the UK, but has now progressed to supplying world wide as far as the USA and Australia."

The prize will be something of the sponsors choice.

20140828_180617-1-1-1

For this challenge MJ has stuck to a palette of green, black and grey using papers from the Heartfelt Creations Celebrate the Journey range together with matching stamps and dies.  She has made a basic stepper card.

Apr #24 Man's World

MJ layered the papers onto the base card and cut out some of the balloons from some left over pieces and using 3D foam pads she added them over some areas of the paper design.

Apr #24 Man's World

She stamp the verses stamp onto white card using archival ink.  Then using Distress Inks in Evergreen Bough and Iced Spruce MJ coloured the stamped images to match the paper.  They were then cut out with the matching die.  Black Soot was used around the outside edges to give some definition.  The central greeting and the bottom strip were cut from one of the papers too.  MJ then arranged them of the card base adding a black organza bow to finish.  Even the man in your life deserves a pretty bow!

What Was Used

Ribbons and Pearls – Crafting Musketeers Challenge #23

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my half-way project for Challenge #23, the theme is "Ribbons and Pearls"  and the sponsor for this month is the fabulous Crafty Ribbons

Here is a little bit about them.

"If you buy any more ribbon, you will have to sell some to get the money"
This chance remark in 1996 was the catalyst that prompted Ali to start Crafty Ribbons, which she runs together with her husband Tony. Crafty Ribbons aim is to offer ribbon lovers and crafters a wide, varied and interesting choice from some of the worlds best ribbons, at affordable prices. We also design and manufacture our own range of ribboncraft kits, including ribbon embroidery, weaving, mitred patchwork, teddy bears, and cushions.

Product Image

Crafty Ribbons operates out of its own modern warehouse building, situated on the outskirts of Blandford Forum in Dorset, England. It is an Aladdins cave of delights. We believe that down Tin Pot Lane  is probably to be found one of the finest collections of ribbons available.
Primarily we sell our ribbons from comprehensive displays, on stands at the major retail shows in the UK and France associated with hobbies and crafts, including sewing, knitting, needlecraft, embroidery, quilting, card making and scrapbooking.
So welcome to the wonderful and versatile world of ribbons -  silks, satins, sheers, ombres, wire edge and much much more - A true Ribbon Emporium.

Product Image

The Crafty Ribbons lorry... probably one of the largest wrapped parcels ever. If you see us out and about, give us a wave

And the prize is a £10 voucher .

Here’s my project….

This time I have kept it nice and simple for a wedding congratulation card using the fab spotted organza ribbon from Crafty Ribbons.  Their ribbons are fantastic quality and they have a huge selection of designs to choose from.

I have take a 6” square card blank.  Cut a piece of white card to 5 3/4” square and embossed it with a folder and glued in place.  Next take some grey paper cut to 5” square and cut it in half and then with the two pieces together I cut an arch shape. Using a hole punch and measuring evenly along each curved edge, punch the lacing holes.  Stamp the swirl image using Versamark to give a watermark look.Glue the panels into position on card front leaving the curved edge free.  Lace the ribbon through the holes.  Add pearl trim along the edges and add a greeting to finish.  Voila!

We were lucky enough to be able to use some of Heather's images for our inspiration and here is my take on this month’s challenge for you.

I wanted to have frilled ribbon on the card to reflect the ruffles on her skirt and a glazed heart to match the ones on her hat.

Heartfelt Creations Altered Box Project–Celebrate the Journey and Arianna Blooms

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all enjoying your Bank Holiday.

MJ was asked if she could do another suitcase project so she has!

So today MJ is sharing a project she created yesterday using an old Molton Brown Gift Box and some gorgeous Heartfelt Creations products.  Once again MJ is using two of her favourite sets; Celebrate the Journey and Arianna Blooms.

This is the box from the outside……

HFC Altered Box 2

And this is the box from the inside..

HFC Altered Box 3

This is what it looked like originally (although she said she had used all her goodies up!)

MoltonBrownGiftSet-300x226

MoltonBrownNaranJi-300x222

  • First thing MJ did was coat the whole box with 2 – 3 coats of white gesso to cover the design on the outside and to cover the yellow inside the box too.  Then dried with heat tool.
  • Next she lined the inside and outside of the box with papers from the Celebrate the Journey paper pad.
  • Then she stamped the suit case onto one of the papers and cut out using the matching die and also cut one unstamped piece of paper for the rear of the suitcase. A 1/2” strip of paper was cut and folded in half and glued in to act as hinge.
  • Using the Arianna Bloom stamp and matching die MJ produced a mass of flowers which she shaped and glued together to form the flowers.
  • Taking the Celebrate the Journey Sentiments stamp and the Once Upon a Time die set she cut out the round greetings and mounted onto card.  She also used the World Map PreCut Set to create the torn pieces inside the box and the Balloon and the Bicycle set to make the balloon piece.  The tags and tickets were cut from the paper pad.

HFC Altered Box 4

  • Once she had all the elements ready to go she glued them into place inside the box until she was happy with the finish.  Adding some floral detail to the inside and front of it too.

HFC Altered Box 5

    What MJ Used

HFC Celebrate the Journey Paper Pad

HFC Balloon and Bicycle PreCut Set – HCPC 3599

HFC Arianna Bloom Stamp – HCPC 3608

Heartfelt Creations Celebrate the Journey Box and Card Project

Hi Everyone

Today MJ has been playing with her favourite paper and stamp range, Heartfelt Creations using the Celebrate the Journey paper pad together with the coordinating dies and stamps.

The outside opening box idea was inspired by John Lockwood’s fancy box and the original post is HERE. The card was inspired by the very talented Nikki Payne who was at Dandie Crafts demoing recently.  Thank you again Nikki.

So let’s show what MJ has done.

This project is; the box measures 5 1/2” x 5 1/2” and the card measures 5 1/4” x 5 1/4”.

Once the box structure was made she has used the pink tones of the 12” x 12” paper and layered top, bottom and sides after using Distress Ink around all edges. The inside of the box was lined with toning papers from the pad.

CTJ 1

Now to see what’s inside the box…..ooo sounds like an old quiz game..lol

What a lovely surprise this will be for the recipient.

CTJ 2

For the card MJ used the same pink toned papers for the front of card.  She then used the coordinating stamps from the Celebrate the Journey range stamping with a Sepia coloured ink onto white card.  The images were then coloured with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.

MJ then used the matching dies to cut out the fob watch and greetings etc.  Next she used the Luggage die set to make the suitcase (she loved that it was fun to make). The small tag was taken from the paper pad as was the ticket. The fun part was arranging it all on the front of the card.

CTJ 4

For the front of the box MJ stamped the greeting and then used the luggage label die to cut it out.

CTJ 5

Canvas with Heartfelt Creations Papers, Distress Paints, Stencils and Modelling Paste

Hi Everyone

Sorry it’s been a while since our last post but things have been a bit hectic!  But we are here today to share a project MJ made with a cheap canvas, some scraps of pretty papers and ‘stuff’ from here crafting chaos of a work room!..lol

So here it is – it’s deeper in colour than the photo shows but as usual MJ says that’s down to her rubbish photography skills!

What MJ Used: -

30cm x 40cm Canvas
Heartfelt Creations 12” x 12” Paper Pad – Aster
IndigoBlu Slap It On – Matte
MaiMeri Light Modelling Paste
Selection of Stencils
Distress Paints – Antique Linen, Peeled Paint, Seedless Preserves, Picked Raspberry Picket Fence

20140715_080039

What MJ Did: -
  1. Take a selection of matching papers and randomly tear into pieces (great for using scraps up).  Glue to canvas with the Slap It On (or a Matte Gel Medium) until the area is covered.  Make it as random as possible to create texture.  Leave to dry.
  2. Using the modelling paste and stencils create texture across the canvas in random areas.  MJ used 6 different stencils in all.  When happy with design leave to dry.
  3. Then use the Distress Paints to colour over the background.  You can tone down the colours with additional water while the paint is wet but once dry it is permanent.  Picket Fence is great for white washing areas too.  Leave to dry.
  4. Next MJ created a dress form and dress template using her Silhouette Cameo.
  5. To create the skirt layers draw around the skirt template twice, place the pieces together and cut into 4 or 5 pieces.  Then starting from the left-hand side glue the pieces onto dress shape leaving the left side of the panels unglued.  This will create the kick on the panels.
  6. Trace around the bodice part of dress onto your chosen paper and stick on.  Create a belt from either paper or ribbon (this will cover the joins).
  7. Edge around dress with black archival ink.  Bend the pleats up and then brush across these with archival ink too. This way it doesn’t look too dark and just adds definition.
  8. Glue dress form shape onto canvas and add dress on top adding some shape before gluing into position.
  9. To finish the project MJ cut flowers out from the papers she had and added to canvas.  If you have flower dies then these would be prefect.  MJ loves the Heartfelt Creations floral dies.  The last thing she did was go around the outside edges of the canvas with a little black arcylic.

We hope you have been inspired.
