Ribbons and Pearls – Crafting Musketeers Challenge #23

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my half-way project for Challenge #23, the theme is "Ribbons and Pearls"  and the sponsor for this month is the fabulous Crafty Ribbons

Here is a little bit about them.

"If you buy any more ribbon, you will have to sell some to get the money"
This chance remark in 1996 was the catalyst that prompted Ali to start Crafty Ribbons, which she runs together with her husband Tony. Crafty Ribbons aim is to offer ribbon lovers and crafters a wide, varied and interesting choice from some of the worlds best ribbons, at affordable prices. We also design and manufacture our own range of ribboncraft kits, including ribbon embroidery, weaving, mitred patchwork, teddy bears, and cushions.

Product Image

Crafty Ribbons operates out of its own modern warehouse building, situated on the outskirts of Blandford Forum in Dorset, England. It is an Aladdins cave of delights. We believe that down Tin Pot Lane  is probably to be found one of the finest collections of ribbons available.
Primarily we sell our ribbons from comprehensive displays, on stands at the major retail shows in the UK and France associated with hobbies and crafts, including sewing, knitting, needlecraft, embroidery, quilting, card making and scrapbooking.
So welcome to the wonderful and versatile world of ribbons -  silks, satins, sheers, ombres, wire edge and much much more - A true Ribbon Emporium.

Product Image

The Crafty Ribbons lorry... probably one of the largest wrapped parcels ever. If you see us out and about, give us a wave

And the prize is a £10 voucher .

Here’s my project….

This time I have kept it nice and simple for a wedding congratulation card using the fab spotted organza ribbon from Crafty Ribbons.  Their ribbons are fantastic quality and they have a huge selection of designs to choose from.

I have take a 6” square card blank.  Cut a piece of white card to 5 3/4” square and embossed it with a folder and glued in place.  Next take some grey paper cut to 5” square and cut it in half and then with the two pieces together I cut an arch shape. Using a hole punch and measuring evenly along each curved edge, punch the lacing holes.  Stamp the swirl image using Versamark to give a watermark look.Glue the panels into position on card front leaving the curved edge free.  Lace the ribbon through the holes.  Add pearl trim along the edges and add a greeting to finish.  Voila!

Classic Cameos and Thinking of You – Tonic Studios Newest Release

Hi Everyone

Snow has been and gone with us and was replaced with lots of thunder and flashing lights but at least it’s not snow..phew!!

MJ has been wrapped up all warm and cosy in her craft hovel creating a quick little project for you with a couple of the fabulous new releases from Tonic Studios launched this week live from California (lucky them we say!).

MJ has worked with elements of the ‘Thinking of You’ Die Set together with the ‘Cameo Creative Classic Cameos Set 1.  She says it each time but this is a fantastic collection with such value built into the sets with the amount of dies you get in one set!

To start this card she took a 6” square card base.  Embossed a piece of Co-ordinations card and inked over lightly using a Distress Ink to pick up detail and soften the colour.  Then MJ took some vintage pink toned ribbon, tied it in the centre to create the dip, and then wrapped it across the front of the embossed card before gluing to front.

Cameo 1 - Jan 15

Next she die cut the border from the ‘Thinking of You ‘ set together with a matching corner.  Also cut 3 sprigs from the ‘Royal Fern’ die set and 2 ovals using the basic set.  Layered the ovals together, added sprigs.

Cameo 1 - Jan 15

MJ had to alter the colour of the cameo from it’s rich tan colour to a burgundy tone to match her card stock.  She did this by painting with some acrylic paint.  When dry it was added to oval plaque.  Using glue gel the cameo panel was added on top of the ribbon and left to dry.

Cameo 1 - Jan 15

To finish the card MJ added the border, corners and pearls.  Voila! Done.

What MJ Used

Tonic Studios Thinking of You Die Set – 191E

Tonic Studios Royal Fern Die Set – 657E

Tonic Studios Mixed Oval Layering Die Set – 485E

Tonic Studio Cameo Creative Classic Cameos Set 1 –51E

Tonic Studios Funky Glue – 420E

Embossalicious 8” x 8” Folder – Regal Swirl

Co-ordinations Card

Distress Ink – Victorian Velvet

Watch out for more projects that MJ will be sharing with over the next few days.

We hope you have been inspired.

Tarmac MDF Plaque using Karen Clare’s Technique

Hi Everyone

MJ recently attended a wonderful workshop in Coventry with the lovely Karen Clare where she learnt the Tarmac Technique.  Today we are giving you a brief overview of it for you.

We are lucky that Karen is coming to present this workshop at Dandie Crafts in September and we can’t wait!  Please pop over to her blog for look you’ll be pleased you did. Just click on her name above.

MJ has been playing around with an old MDF shelf from a dismantled shelving in her craft room.  She was wanted to make her OH a plaque to hang in his garage alongside the love of his life – his 1959 Lambretta!  She tried to replicate the oil patches that are all over the garage so didn’t want the colours to blend too much.  MJ isn’t sure she quite got the look she was after but it was close enough as her OH won’t notice it anyway…lol

MJ started off with the old shelf and gave it coat of IndigoBlu  Gee-Sso Good! (white) – it’s a great product with a good consistency.  The black gesso in this range is brilliant for coverage too.  Great for doing the chalkboard stamped effects that are popular still at the moment.

20140604_182439

Next she used a selection of embossing folders and white card and then cut into different sized pieces and glued them to the shelf….ooops…she meant to say…MDF plaque..lol

20140604_184700

Then using her Silhouette Cameo she cut out lettering and shapes to suit her project and added them to her base.

20140604_194652

Then the messy bit….MJ painted the base using acrylics (as that is the best option she had available at home).

20140604_200123

Oooooooo she then coated it with the magical tar solution (hee hee) and left to dry.  After this she removed the colour until she was happy with the result (well almost happy with the result…she’s never confident at the end!).  To finish her project she applied some gilding wax.

20140604_204708

What MJ Used

Embossalicious Folder – Script, Watches, Knit One Purl One

Darice Embossing Folder – Squares, Wood Grain, Basket Weave

Acrylic Paints – Permanent Red, Phthalo Blue

Pebeo – Silver Gilding Wax

Silhouette Cameo –  to cut die cuts

We hope you have been inspired.

Scruffy Little Kat – Sneak Peek – Launches 9th May –Crafters Companion

Hi Everyone

Just a very quick post for you today.  It’s been so exciting for MJ using these fab stamps and CD.  Scruffy Little Kat is so hip and trendy!

MJ has used her Spectrum Noir pens to colour her in.  She also worked with the Papercrafting CD using the design sets and coordinating papers to create a funky layout to the project.

Firstly MJ looked through the CD which took her a long time as it is jam packed with printables including the papers, embellishments and sentiments plus loads more stuff, and chose papers in peachy/pink tones. Then she matched the colours up with her Speccies.

She chose to use:

Clothes and Hairband CR6, CR7 and CR9
Skin – TN1, TN2, FS2, FS8
Hair – GB2, GB5, GB7 and GB9

20140415_234050

Then she added her mats and layers to make the base card.  It finished looking like this!

Please tune in to Create and Craft on (@createandcrafttv) 9th May to see the launch of this gorgeous brand with Crafters Companion.

We hope you have been inspired.

Camden Town CD from Crafters Companion launches today on Create and Craft!!

Hi Everyone

Well the time has almost arrived….today Crafters Companion will be launching the Camden Town CD’s – one for the men and one for the ladies.

Please don’t miss the live shows with Dawn Wheeler where she will be showing you how to get the best from these CD’s and see what a great job the Design Team has done in giving you lots of inspiration.

MJ has used a selection of elements from the Male CD for her little peeks for you.

20140326_165627

This card is great for a teenager.  She choose a decoupage image, a border sheet and a background paper taken from the Design Set section.  To finish she added some matching coloured eyelets.

20140326_165627

For the next project MJ has taken a coordinating backing paper, sentiment and embellishment sheets and Spray and Shine to glaze the guitars.  A very simple and quick card to do.  She finished it some star brads and an insert created from the Design Set section.

20140326_172949

For this Tag card MJ has used the Tag Compnaions section on the CD.  She created a tri-fold card using her Ultimate Pro tool.  She 3D’d the potting shed by printing image out twice and cut out the windows on the top one.  T finish she used sentiments, bottle embellishments and a die cut from her crafting stash.

We hope you have been inspired.

Crafters Inspiration Magazine Issue 4 - Makey Bakey Mice with Embossalicious and Kraft Card

Hi Everyone

Thought we would share a project that MJ has done for you using the FREE CD images that come within the Crafters Inspiration Magazine Issue 4.  The freebies are great and give you such added value with nothing taken away from the quality of the items enclosed.

Today MJ has chosen to use the Makey Bakey Mice decoupage topper image into an easel card project.

20140327_200344

She used the Crafters Companion Kraft Card together with two backing papers she chose from the CD.  MJ loves to work with Kraft Card and soft blues – it’s such a pretty combo.

20140327_200344

The quality of this image is superb and the decoupage is so made so easy to cut out – not too many fussy bits and bobs.

20140327_200344

On the tag shape she embossed the Kraft Card using an 8” x 8” Embossalicious folder called Flower Frenzy and then inked lightly over with Tea Dye Distress Ink and Frayed Burlap around the edges to darken.

20140327_200344

The mini easel card is made from one of the greeting panels from a sentiments sheet.

20140327_200344

She even decided to make a small box using her UltimatePro and Boxer Board – it’s so easy to make if you have the correct equipment to hand.  MJ hates too much ‘faffing’ as she calls it. She likes things to be simple to achieve for everyone.  To finish, all she did was pierce three small holes with her pokey tool through the top of the box and pushed in the candle holders.  The candles just store in the box below.

You can really go to town with your chosen decorations.  Have fun!

We hope you have been inspired.
